The average UK energy bill is set to rise by 10 per cent in October. But what if there was a way to make the autumn price rise, your last bothersome energy price rise?
Broadland, North Norfolk and Norwich district councils have teamed up with Solar Together to offer you the opportunity to participate in a group-buy scheme to obtain professionally installed, fully guaranteed solar panels and/or battery system – and optionally, an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger – for your home.
The scheme allows you to obtain a home battery with or without solar panels, which can potentially offer you significant savings by allowing you to charge from the grid at low-cost times of day/night when the sun isn’t shining, while powering your home directly from battery during periods of higher energy prices*.
Additionally, a battery system can be used to keep you home powered during a power cut – which solar alone cannot do.
The scheme is open to registration by Norfolk residents until midnight on 18 October 2024. Registration is free and by registering, you are not making a financial commitment to accept the quote and participate in the scheme.
Under the supervision of the local authority, Solar Together will hold an auction with East Anglian installation companies, awarding the contract and confirming “pre-roof survey”, provisional pricing at the beginning of October.
You will then have several days to look over the quote and decide if you would like to financially commit. If you do, a full home survey will be performed on payment of a small deposit to ensure suitability (refundable if it isn’t suitable) and to create a final costed design that is bespoke to your home.
The scheme aims to complete all installations within Broadland no later than the end of March 2025 – just in time to start seeing the benefits of all that early spring sunshine.
*A smart meter and an agile energy tariff is required to make proper use of a home battery.
