FILM_POWER ST POSTER

Key points raised in the discussion following the screening of  Power Station at Aylsham Town Hall on 15 May 2006.

Community Energy Production

Genuinely community power and paying for community projects where everyone benefits – also include wind turbines, river power, thermal underground

Book – The Cooperating System by Peter Anderson

Engage an energy adviser – What could Aylsham do?

Approach Octopus Electricity about providing group pricing

Incentive

If the council could make savings it could go towards reducing council tax for all people

Solar saving for schools and community

Insulation:

Bulk buy for the town

Identify need, street by street – lofts, windows, walls – using thermal camera

Knock on doors, open house day, identify a model street

Have ambassadors for each street

Communal

Not everyone is well informed on the technical aspects of solar energy

Wider discussions about multiplicity of approaches – wind, solar, air source, water, and what would be most appropriate here

Having people on the Town Council with energy to drive this forward

Approach neighbours about potential of installing solar panels collectively sharing information from solar users to non-users

Have warm spaces in the town to reduce costs of home heating

Community kitchen people eat together once a week

Fund Raising

Have a Solar Street Party

Have a year of fund raising – a Mutual Society – start with schools and civic buildings

Crowd Funding – for panels on Town Hall – savings go straight for solar for schools, nursing homes, surgeries etc
