ACE winner Astrid with her bug house prize.

Despite temperatures climbing to 31C, families still headed to the Recreation Ground in Aylsham for the eagerly anticipated Family Fun Day.

Organised by Jilly Gourlay, the event on Saturday 9 September  was held to raise money for disability play equipment on the Rec. There were sports activities, arts and crafts, face painting and a wonderfully popular children’s entertainer to keep everyone busy.

ACE winner Astrid with her bug house prize.ACE members went along to support this valuable cause and to talk to adults and children about how we can all work together towards a Greener Aylsham.

Conversations ranged from the day’s extraordinary heat and speculation about possible links to global warming, to  recycling initiatives being planned by ACE’s Waste group, information detailing local cycling routes and booking ACE heat surveys to help homeowners and businesses identify where energy is being lost.

We also enjoyed hearing from younger members of the community about the “Eco Clubs” they had attended over the summer and in school, involving lots of work around litter picking and waste.

And 50 children played our Treasure Tree game hoping to win a beautiful bug house. Congratulations to Astrid, whose lucky leaf made her our competition winner.
