TV presenter Nicholas Crane will open Aylsham’s third Green Day on Sunday 22 September, at 10am in the Market Place and Town Hall.
Organised by ACE, the event will feature stalls, displays, parades and entertainment to celebrate our planet and everything it gives us, from 10am to 2pm.
Author, geographer, explorer and broadcaster, Nicholas Crane (pictured) is also former President of the Royal Geographic Society, and presenter of Coast, Map Man, Great British Journeys and much more.
The event will aim to show all the small things we can do to help mitigate climate change. We want to show you what we’ve been doing and how we are thinking about the future.
We’ll demonstrate how we are working hard to recycle all those tablet blister packs that usually get chucked in the bin.
We will be asking you about how you see the future of traffic going through Aylsham, how we can protect our rivers from pollution, what plants and creatures we can help to preserve and protect in nature.
We’ll be showing you ideas to insulate your house and save energy, and looking at how we can promote local food traditions, protect edible biodiversity and advocate for sustainable food production.
And that’s just the ACE stalls!
There will be music, competitions, workshops, children’s activities and a heap of prizes to hand out, as well as local groups with the same concerns as ACE showing you what they are doing, and what they have to offer.
There’s still time to enter our two Nature-themed competitions in time for Green Day.
- Design an eco-themed T-shirt: ages 10- 17.
You can use an illustration and/or words on your T-shirt design.
Draw it on an A4 sheet of paper and write your name and contact details on the back.
Place your design unfolded in an A4 envelope labelled GREEN DAY T-SHIRT DESIGN.
Take it to Aylsham Town Hall offices by 5pm on the 18 September.
Winners will be announced on the day, and will have their own design made into a T-shirt.
- Fancy Dress competition: ages under 8
Come dressed as anything with a nature/wildlife theme – let your imagination run wild! You need to be at the ACE Nature stall in the Market Place ready for the fancy dress parade at 11am on the day. Win tickets to Bewilderwood! Get your outfits ready!
